El Mavericamino!

Today we have a rare treat! The specimen pictured above (and below!) may not be a purebred, but it is certainly on the automotive endangered species list. It is in fact, a hybrid, although not in the ‘Toyota Prius’ sense of the word. Perhaps a better word is ‘crossbreed’.

The sire of this noble steed was a Ford Maverick. Once plentiful in the wild in North America, they have all but disappeared from existence. Hunted to near extinction for their disk brakes (maybe), that noble and ultimateĀ descendant of the Ford Falcon essentially no longer exists in the United States. In South America, something else happened. Given that the Ford Mustang was not commonly sold in dealers, the Maverick entered to fill that void.
